What Are My Skills?

  • Cloud Storage Software

    At WANdisco, I worked extensively with Cloud storage software to support massive Hadoop HDFS data migrations into Azure (ADLSg2), Amazon (S3), Google (GCS), and Oracle (OCS).

  • Coaching

    I am skilled at coaching others and lead by example. I frequently coach my peers on application of new technical skills, navigating complex processes, and communicating with difficult or hard-to-understand people. I know that success is a moving target, and maintaining relevancy requires a life-long commitment to learning, continuous improvement, with honest and direct communication. Like a good sports coach, I plan meticulously and pay great attention to detail, but I understand that learning and teaching requires providing an optimal environment and opportunities for others to practice and prepare.

  • Communication

    I am a highly effective communicator, with years of experience in writing and delivering technical presentations, writing technical guides and documentation, and leading meetings. I am skilled at asking questions, discovering business use-case and technical details, and communicating requirements to technical and non-technical people alike.

  • Concept Testing

    One of my primary responsibilities at WANdisco was Proof-of-Concept, or Proof-of-Value demonstrations for prospective customers. I have regularly and frequently demonstrated solutions to customer use-cases in a virtual lab, and in customer-owned on-premises test environments. Conducting Proof-of-Concept testing has been an essential part of Solution Selling for my entire career.

  • DevOps

    While I have not been employed as a DevOps Engineer, I do have technical skills required by this role. While at WANdisco, I regularly used deployment automation technologies, such as Jenkins and Ansible.

    I can code in several languages including Python, Javascript, and Bash shell scripting. I am a Linux professional, with decades of experience at the keyboard in complex Linux and Unix environments. I am a highly skilled System Administrator, proficient at bare-metal and virtual system administration.
